The Case of the Missing Website

If you have launched your company’s new website only to discover that it does not appear in Google’s search results, you are not alone.  There is only one first page of Google search results, so almost all the other websites related to the business you are in are also invisible to some extent.  Why are some great-looking and well-designed websites completely off Google’s radar?  Typing the web address directly into a browser or clicking on an email link to go to a site will get you there.  You can even search for a company by name and usually find it. But if you search for the company based on what they do or what they sell, well, that’s different.

Some businesses have a website because they assume that it makes their business appear legitimate to inquirers.  In this case, the site is more of a brochure than a sales tool or lead generator. Brochures are fine for companies, but what if you want your website to do more?

If a company does nothing to promote their site, it is not likely that they will be found in Google.

If a website is going to attract new customers, then it must be more than okay.  It must be more than great. It must be visible in the first three pages of Google search engine result pages, preferably on the first page.

There is only one Page 1 in the search engine results pages.  How can your website land on the first page for keywords related to your business?  Well, it helps to be a great site, visually attractive with a compelling message. But Google requires more than that.  Many parts of the search engine equation are factored into determining placement in search engine results.
