Technologists Greg Hullender, Rajat Khare, Sprouls tell us about how technology slow transcends into achieving human cognitive capabilities
Machines were, for long, solely confined to the binary division of work, and the talks about machines adapting human aspects were just lucidly advocated. But, this decade has seen some of the breakthrough AI transformations and birth of technologies that have brought machines closer to humans, both figuratively and cognitively.
Knowledge, which was once though and a gift invested only in mankind is now being engineered into machines to make them as capable as us at interpreting and doing things, if not more. Machine perception sounds deals with the capability to use sensory inputs to deduce the different aspects of the world, while computer vision is the power to analyze visual inputs with a few sub-problems such as facial, object and gesture recognition.
Taking machine perception to the next level of human capacity building, object motion planning and navigation has seen one of the best outputs. Technologist and founder of investment firm Boundary Holding Rajat Khare has been investing in startups that research and invest heavily in sensory intelligence. Talking about how machine perception, Rajat Khare says “The multiple sensors technology in a physical surveillance area is a way to take human vision to next level and identify, improve patterns in streams of inputs for better performance.”
The human brain can solve a problem it has never seen before,” says Greg Hullender, a specialist in machine learning and natural language, who has been a research scientist for companies like Amazon. “Nothing in machine learning is like that. Everything is built for a specific problem.”
Imitating the right side of the brain, machine perception is a concept that studies patterns, make bases its decision making based on replicating the perceptive senses. The perspective ability of computers and machines are frowned upon, but through the technology advancements, we have let machines take on array of perspective powers.
Image/facial recognition, speech analysis, automation have been both used and progressed. In fact, improvements have been staggering in the past ten years and the pace is sure to continue at an exponential rate over the next decade.
AI deals with understanding patterns in the input data for a situation and deriving perceptions based on its deep learning about a specific topic.AI systems, even with its narrow and limited scope, is still capable of revolutionary changes to how we live and work. It offers incredible opportunities for simplifying and personalizing the use of products and offering radically new services. We are just at the very beginning of a massive change.
